Electrical Engineer

Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Engineer to take overall responsibility for the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of hire equipment returned to Workshops by Depots in the Region, ensuring that all work undertaken is safe and complies with Speedy Hire safety standards

Main Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Workshop Manager/ Foreman to support Depot operations to provide Customer assistance (including breakdown site visits, safety demonstrations and advice on accessory requirements)
  • Ensuring that all equipment is cleaned / painted so as to be presented to Customers in accordance with Company standards
  • Dealing with enquiries in a professional and friendly manner and informing Depots/ Regional Teams of any problems when they arise
  • Liaising with the Workshop Manager/ Foreman to prioritise workloads to meet Customer/ Depot demand for hire equipment
  • Wearing full Speedy Hire uniform and PPE at all times
  • Keeping the Workshop safe, tidy and well organised at all times to promote a safe working environment and professional image of Speedy Hire to the Customer
  • Ensuring all repairs and maintenance is completed in accordance with manufacturer and Company standards, including carrying out comprehensive safety checks of all hire equipment before despatch/ when returned and completing and including all necessary documentation
  • Having an up-to-date understanding of the Company, Health and Safety and the legal requirements for safety inspections and repairs/ maintenance
  • Servicing, maintenance and repair of equipment that is not dealt with by the Depot, e.g. large generators
  • Assisting Drivers, when required, with safe loading, securing and unloading of all equipment requiring more than one person for safe handling
  • Keeping the Workshop safe by keeping tools and equipment clean and tidy when not in use and ensuring walk ways are free of obstructions and spillages are cleaned immediately
  • Identifying any safety risks in the Workshop to the Workshop Manager/ Foreman
  • Assisting the Depots when they experience Employee shortages e.g collect equipment when the Depot Driver is unavailable
  • Assisting in the completion Workshop asset and stock counts on a rolling and annual basis
  • Completing all administration documents and inputs to IT systems in a timely and accurate manner and following all workshop procedures, e.g. purchase orders, repair logs, etc.
  • Using the Depot’s IT systems to effectively process administration work
  • Contributing to regular reviews led by the Workshop Manager/ Foreman to improve the Workshop’s service levels, performance and productivity
  • Conducting additional ad hoc duties as may be designated by the Workshop Manager/ Foreman from time to time
  • Following all Company procedures, rules and policies set out in company handbook and employment contract e.g. Health and Safety Policy
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have served in the industry, whether this be tools, plant, agricultural, motor vehicle or any mechanical background.

He/she will also have fault finding and repair experience of:

  • Engines- 4 stroke diesel and petrol and 2 stroke
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electrical systems- 110v, 240v, 415v and 12v
  • Generators up to 50kva  and compressors up to 130cfm
  • Pressure washers- cold water and steam cleaners
  • Trailers and towable running gear- brake assemblies , strip down ,set up
