An SWMP is a mandatory plan for projects with a value in excess of £300k, introduced as a legal requirement, following the Site Waste Management Plan Regulations that came into force on 8th April 2008. Projects with a value in excess of £500K require a more complicated SWMP.
An SWMP captures the waste streams arising from a construction project and indicates how they will be managed eg by disposal or recovery. It can serve as a useful tool to help project directors and managers deal cost-effectively with construction wastes.
