We are developing our ESG Strategy and reviewing how to make our business carbon neutral, as well as embracing new sustainable technology in our hire fleet. The Risk and Assurance Team have provided assurance for both the retail expansion into B&Q and the Company’s ESG Strategy.

We are looking for a graduate who can support the team in their risk and assurance activities. We provide independent assurance to the PLC board that risk is actively managed in the business. We are one of a few departments that interact with all areas on the business, from Marketing to Engineering. This is a well-respected department who report directly to the Audit & Risk Committee. There is regular contact with senior management and the opportunity to interact with the Executive Directors. This role will enable you to develop strong relationships across Speedy with both individuals and departments and gain a good understanding of the operation of the whole business and how risk management and control frameworks are developed and operated.

What is Risk and Assurance?

Risk and Assurance at Speedy is delivered over two main areas;

  • Corporate Assurance: This consists of reviewing and evaluating a department’s procedures, and identifying areas for improvement, to provide independent assurance to the Audit Committee that risk management within the organisation is operating effectively. The effect of the audit is felt business wide and is a vital tool in helping Speedy develop and improve.
  • Depot Assurance:  This consists of evaluating the Speedy depots, ensuring that each depot is operating to the highest standard.

What do we look for?

A successful candidate will operate with a high level of trust, integrity, professionalism and objectivity. You will have the ability to communicate both within the R&A team and the wider business with a desire to learn and problem solve.  Being able to work under pressure and produce reports and results to strict deadlines is essential along with the capacity for using your initiative and being highly motivated to succeed in a fast paced and changing environment.  You will also be required to:

  • Show flexibility in order to travel where required
  • Demonstrate commitment to obtain ACCA qualifications
  • Have excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Have obtained 2:1 degree or above

It would also be desirable if candidates had:

  • Previous work experience such as a year in industry, a part time job or a volunteer role
  • UK Driving License as there is travel associated with this role.

As well as completing your day-to-day role you will also be required to complete our two year Speedy Graduate Development Programme.
