How to Use a Reciprocating Saw

How do you cut wood or plasterboard in areas that you can’t get any other saw into? You use one of these, this is a reciprocating saw and you can hire them from Speedy, the UK’s number one hire company.

A couple of good things to remember when hiring from Speedy, all our hire equipment is checked, tested, cleaned and serviced before every hire and will come ready to go. You’ll also notice a folder attached to your hire product, these are the safety and operating instructions, please make sure you read these before you begin your job.

Recip saws are great for cutting things like wood, thin sheet metal, laminate flooring, wallboards or even thin pipe. There are a number of different blades you can get for your saw, depending on what you’re going to need to cut, and you can buy them from Speedy. If you're unsure of what you need, don’t panic, just give your local Speedy Service Centre a call as they are happy to help.

Before you use the recip saw it's really important that you wear the correct PPE, eye protection and gloves are essential when operating this bit of kit. Any PPE you require for your job can be purchased from Speedy.

STEP 1

When you get your recip saw the first thing you are going to need to do is attach your blade. This can be done by holding back the locking lever, pushing your blade into position and then allowing the locking lever to clamp you blade into place.

STEP 2

Surrounding the blade, you will notice this metal frame. This is a depth guide and can be adjusted by pinching the buttons on the side of the recip saw, you can then use your hand to move the depth guide up and down. Adjusting the depth guide to the size of the material you are going to cut will help the saw blade stay straight, giving you a neater finish.

STEP 3

Once you’ve made all your required adjustments you can insert the battery by simply slotting it into the bottom of the saw and listening out for the click.

STEP 4

By the handle of the recip saw you will notice a display, above the display is a button this will allow you to change the speed of the saw and should be adjusted based on the materials you’re cutting and how comfortable you are using the saw. Once you're ready to start your job, place your blade onto the material you are cutting unlock the safety switch and squeeze the trigger.

If you have any issues with any of the products you hire from Speedy, just give your local Service Centre a call, as we are always available to help, and remember to always check the safety and operating guidance before you use any hire product.
