HOW TO USE AN EDGING SANDER - CORRECTLY AND SAFELY

Wooden floors are great because no matter what they can always be sanded back to their former glory, but the thought of being on your hands and knees with a block of wood and some sandpaper is daunting, but not to worry because that’s a thing of the past, this is an edging sander, and you can hire them from Speedy, the UK’s number one hire company.

A couple of good things to remember when hiring from Speedy, all our hire equipment is checked, tested, cleaned and serviced before every hire and will all come ready to go. You will also notice a folder attached to your hire product, these are the safety and operating instructions, please make sure you read these before you begin your job.

Edging sanders are perfect for tackling the edges of wooden flooring and are designed to sand the floor right up to the edge of the skirting.

Before you use the edging sander it’s really important that you wear the correct PPE, eye protection, gloves, safety boots and a dust mask are essential and any PPE you do require can be purchased from Speedy.

STEP 1

When you receive your edging sander your will need to attach your sanding disc. Speedy offer a range of different sanding discs for this machine, Fine sanding discs are ideal for finishing off your floors, medium sanding discs are ideal for removing varnish and coarse sanding discs are ideal for removing debris like plaster or paint. If you're unsure on what you need, just ask your local Speedy service centre, and they will be happy to advise you. Alternatively, any sanding discs you do require can be purchased from Speedy. Whatever type of sanding disc you get, fitting it to the edging sander will be the same.

STEP 2

To fit or change your sanding disc, you will need to turn the edging sander upside down and locate the wrench, this can be found clipped to the inside of the edging sander and can simply be pulled out. Place the wrench onto the central nut and loosen the bolt until both the nut and washer come off. Place your sanding disc into position then use the wrench to tighten the washer and nut back on making sure that the nut sits beneath the level of the sanding pad. Make sure you also clip the wrench back into place, so it’s not lost.

STEP 3

Now you have fitted your siding disc, you are ready to start using it.

STEP 4

Any mains powered equipment that you hire from Speedy can come with one of three different plugs a UK standard domestic plug that can be plugged into any household socket. A yellow 110v plug that will require a transformer or a blue 240v plug that will require an RCD unit, but don’t worry whatever you require your Speedy Service Centre will provide you with everything you need to power up your equipment and no matter the shape or size of your transformer or RCD unit plugging it in will be exactly the same, simply lift the flap and push in the plug.

STEP 5

Place the sander in position and make sure the bag tray is pulled down and the bag is sitting within it, this is to prevent the bag from dragging along the floor.

STEP 6

Place two hands onto the handles of the edging sander and use your thumb to press down the spring-loaded power button on the top. This will activate the sander, but remember, it will try and pull away from you, so make sure you have a firm grip. When you remove pressure from the button, it will automatically turn off..

STEP 7

Our edging sander works hand in hand with our floor sander, which is perfect for sanding the larger areas of your floor space. To learn more about our floor sander, just click on the link in the top corner.
