Get Your Home Ready for a Coronation Big Lunch

This year, between 6-8 May 2023, millions of people will be taking part in Big Lunches around the UK to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

While there are plenty of official events taking place in communities across Britain, it isn’t too late to plan a get-together of your own.

If you think hosting your party indoors is the best idea, you’ll want to get your home fit for a King. Luckily, Speedy has all of the cleaning equipment you need to get the job done.

You can hire a range of cleaning equipment from Speedy all year round, from carpet cleaners to vacuums, so don’t let dust take the shine off your amazing hosting skills…

How to Prep Your Home for the Coronation Big Lunch

  1. Clean the carpets

Carpets should be cleaned two or three times a year, to get rid of any dirt or allergens built up in the fibres. Now is a great time for one of the cleans; you can leave the windows open to dry the carpet, and it gets rid of the dirt and dust which built up over winter.

Hire a carpet cleaner from Speedy to get the job done. It can lift dirt from deep within the carpet, and the Truvox HC250 Hydromist is heavy-duty, so can tackle years of dirt in one go.

  1. Steam soft furnishings

There are so many benefits to steam cleaning. Not only can it clean soft furnishings which are otherwise tricky to clean (such as curtains and sofas), but the steam will leave the room smelling fresh too. Perfect if you’re entertaining.

Hiring a steam cleaner means you can tackle dirt and hygienically clean without the use of chemicals and make your home smell inviting naturally.

Cover any bare skin and wear gloves, protective shoes, and eye protection when working with a steam cleaner.

  1. Steam clean the kitchen

Steam cleaners aren’t just for fabrics. If you’re going to be getting the party food ready on the big day, you’ll want to have a clean kitchen to work in—especially if guests will be helping out.

A steam cleaner can clean your kitchen flooring and appliances. Blast away grime from hobs, ovens, and worktops using handheld attachments, then use the floor attachment for hard stone floors or tiles.

  1. Decorate & get party ready

From Union Jack bunting to balloons and even paper plates with King Charles’ face on, there is no shortage of Coronation décor out there readily available.

If you’ve got kids, you can keep them busy by getting them to make paper crowns for all your guests to wear!

Entertainment-wise, there is an official Coronation Playlist available on Spotify, so get your speakers ready for the event. Extension leads will help if you’ve also got lighting and other entertainment on the go.

  1. Think about the food

Finally, all that is left is the food. The Coronation Quiche has been created especially for the occasion, but if you aren’t a fan of spinach, broad beans or soya beans, they can easily be swapped out for something else—or your local supermarket will have one ready-made!

Coronation Chicken was on the menu for Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, which is a great filling for sandwiches or as a side dish.

And of course, there’s nothing wrong with all the usual party food either. Sausage rolls, chicken nuggets, mozzarella dippers, and mini pizzas are all failsafe options no matter who is on your invite list!
