The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has awarded the first Earned Recognition HS2 module standard to UK tool and equipment hire provider Speedy.

The module is open to all Earned Recognition operators and allows them to bid for HS2-related contracts. HS2 Limited has approved the module as meeting their safety and security requirements for heavy vehicles on their construction sites.

DVSA’s Director of Enforcement Marian Kitson said:

“DVSA’s priority is to protect everyone from unsafe drivers and vehicles.

“The HS2 module will open opportunities for Earned Recognition operators who have chosen to join a scheme that has continuous monitoring to prove their high standards of compliance.

“Being able to bid for contracts such as HS2 will not only benefit the operator and contractor, but also help boost road safety by ensuring safe vehicles and drivers involved are of the highest standard.”

Speedy’s Transport Compliance Manager Gareth Jones said:

“This accreditation represents a significant milestone for our business and demonstrates our commitment to transport compliance across our fleet of vehicles through continuous monitoring from the DVSA to prove the high standards of compliance are maintained at all times.

“We operate with safety, sustainability at the heart of everything we do, and deliver innovation whilst supporting the logistics for our HS2 contracts. Being the first business to be awarded the Earned Recognition HS2 module standard is something the Speedy Transport team are very proud to have achieved.”

Speedy’s Chief Operating Officer Dan Evans said:

“HS2 is the largest and most complex piece of infrastructure to be built in Europe. This demonstrates our commitment to safety, sustainability and delivering innovation across our logistics for HS2.

“Our capability to provide a fast and reliable service at scale, coupled with our collaborative approach to working with contractors and government bodies, will play a key role in ensuring the right equipment is always available for the HS2 project.”

DVSA’s Earned Recognition scheme is a way for vehicle operators to prove their organisation meets driver and vehicle standards and has a proven culture of compliance.

There are currently 80 Earned Recognition operators. Speedy was awarded the HS2 standard on 18 August 2020.
