Speedy’s customers, suppliers, employees, and a host of other businesses have all ‘clubbed together’ to raise over £27,000 at the 2014 BRIGHT Charity Golf Event.

144 players including talkSPORT presenter Georgie Bingham and former World Boxing Champion, John Conteh, teed off at Foxhills Golf Club in Ottershaw, Surrey on Wednesday 4th June to raise vital funds for Guildford based cancer charity BRIGHT.

The 18-hole event was made up of 36 teams, who competed in various on-course activities, including a hole-in-one sponsored by Mercedes, followed by a three course dinner in the evening.

Guests dug deep during the charity auction, bidding for some fantastic prizes that were generously donated. These included holidays to South Africa, Italy and Ireland together with prestigious tickets for major golf events and some wonderful non-golf items, particularly a David Coulthard Watch, hospitality tables at London Irish RFC and a hospitality box at Ascot, all of which contributed to the total amount raised.

The money will go towards the new Papillon radiotherapy machine at the St Luke’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital - the first in the South of England to offer this unique form of radiotherapy which offers an alternative to life changing surgery.

Brendan Reynolds, non-executive director and patron of BRIGHT, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the total amount raised and must thank all of the golfers for their generosity. It was a fantastic day and everyone had a great time both on the course and afterwards at the dinner.

“Extra special thanks go to Speedy Services who were the forerunners of the event and helped with the organisation,  Nike who sponsored the top table winning prizes, along with many other sponsors of donated items, major contracting companies that entered teams and Captains of Industry who have all contributed to achieving such a grand total.”

Mark Rogerson MBE, Chief Executive Officer at Speedy, said: “We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. The work BRIGHT does in researching the effectiveness of treatment and helping people who have been diagnosed with cancer is inspiring and, more importantly, life-changing, so we are very proud to be supporting this charity in partnership with our suppliers.”

“This is a phenomenal amount of money raised from one event and is a fantastic achievement for all concerned.”
