Ten Speedy Services employees are putting their best foot forward at this year’s London Marathon, to raise vital funds for children’s charity WellChild.

The company is also sponsoring WellChild’s 160 team of runners and together, ‘Team Speedy’ will be tackling the 26-mile course on Sunday 13th April.

Employees from around the country are representing Speedy in the iconic race and despite all having different sporting backgrounds, they share one goal: to raise as much money as possible for WellChild, the charity that supports seriously ill children and their families in the UK.

A local sporting hero, Steve Symons is a hire controller at the Speedy depot in Ashbridge, off Tenax Road and has been around the world in thirty-nine Marathons, 170 half Marathons and that many 10K runs he practically runs in his sleep. This will be the sixth London Marathon Steve has completed and marks his 40th Marathon.

Jackie Rawlings is a fleet administrator at the Speedy depot on Whitby Road, Bristol, and is a self confessed running addict. Jackie has completed numerous running events including the Bristol Half Marathon, Race for Life and the Sport Relief and Ashton Court 10K and can’t wait to run her first Marathon.

Stephen Lee, manager at the Speedy depot on Mason Road in Norwich, has dusted down his running shoes after a serious injury left him on crutches for six months. The sporty individual has posted a progress chart at the depot so customers can see how far he has run and with all the support and motivation from the team, friends and family, Stephen is feeling confident and excited about the race.

Dad of three, Kevin Sanderson, is an assistant manager at the Speedy depot on Blackbird Road in Leicester and only started running last year. He has been getting up at the crack of dawn and running up to 17 miles each weekend, and is looking forward to the challenge.

Tom Robinson and Craig Isherwood both work in IT at Speedy’s head office in Newton-le-Willows and only found out they would be running the Marathon in February, after they were offered the places as last minute replacements.

Despite the short notice, Tom and Craig couldn’t refuse as “it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Steve Williams, WellChild Challenge event manager, said: “We are extremely grateful to have Speedy’s support and would like to thank everyone for their donations. They are the ideal partner for us, not just because their name is so suitable but because of the energy and enthusiasm they bring.”
