Speedy, the leading provider of equipment rental and support services, is delighted to announce its support of the charity Build IT International. Speedy will be donating equipment to the charity which assists local communities in Africa to deliver essential, low-cost community buildings.

The total value of the equipment donated is £53,000 and includes power tools, concrete mixers, and an excavator which, when trained to use will improve the trainees skills base and give them a better chance of finding work.

Site safety is an important issue for Build IT International and the donation of protective clothing and scaffolding are crucial as they are not available locally. The donated goods will arrive in Zambia by March 2011, in time to be allocated to the six projects Build IT International has lined up for 2011.

Commenting, Steve Corcoran, chief executive of Speedy said: "We are very pleased to be associated with Build IT International and the fantastic work that they are doing. Even during tough times it is important to continue supporting those less fortunate than ourselves."

Andrew Jowett, director of Build IT International, said: "This fantastic donation of equipment will make a huge difference to our work in Zambia. A big thank-you to all at Speedy. Our projects train local people in building skills so that they can go on and earn a better living. Build IT International works with at least 50 trainees each year, young men and women from some of the poorest communities in Africa."
