Speedy, the UK’s leading supplier of equipment hire has been awarded a Green Apple award for its sustainability strategy One Plan.

Competing against more than 500 other nominations, they were presented with their award in a presentation held at the House of Commons this month.

The awards are administrated by the Green Organisation, a group dedicated to recognising and promoting environmental best practice. Judges for the awards are drawn from the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Chartered Institute for Waste Management.

Speedy will now also be considered to represent their country in the European Business Awards for the Environment and One Plan will be featured in the next Green Book, the world’s only work of reference on environmental best practice.

One Plan is a sustainability action plan that through a combination of services and incentives, will enable Speedy and their suppliers to reduce carbon emissions, improve health and safety and increase efficiency.

Steve Corcoran, chief executive of Speedy, said: “One Plan is a crucial part of our business strategy, and we’re pleased that it has already been recognised as environmental best practice in this way. Engagement among our employees and industry is already excellent and we expect it to make an enormous impact on our carbon output.”

The judges commented, “Speedy already have a series of more efficient tools that people can hire, with the data to back up their claims. The One Plan initiative follows this up and gives customers all the information they need to make informed rental decisions based on efficiency and sustainability as well as cost.”
