Speedy - the UK’s leading provider of equipment rental and support services – has today [9th June] been awarded a silver rating in Business in the Community’s (BITC) 2011 Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI).
CRI is the UK’s leading independent benchmark of corporate responsibility. Speedy were given a Corporate Responsibility Score of 87 per cent and an Environmental Index Score of 84 per cent.
Speedy’s corporate transparency was highlighted as a key strength, with a score of 100 for ‘public reporting’ and ‘disclosure’ in comparison to a support services industry average of 72 and 80 respectively.
Speedy were awarded a score of 100 across all ‘corporate strategy’ criteria, including corporate commitment, in recognition of their success in placing the Corporate Responsibity agenda at the heart of its business operation.
Full marks were also awarded in areas such as meeting ‘responsibilities to customers’ and ‘managing the environmental impacts of products and services’. In addition they were given full marks for ‘employee engagement’ in environmental management and for ‘health and safety management’.
Speedy has had a structured, target-led approach to Corporate Responsibility since 2006. Key Performance Indicators were set and individuals across the business have been given the responsibility of ensuring that these targets are achieved.
Mike McGrath, Executive Director at Speedy, said:
“These CRI scores show that Corporate Responsibility isn’t just something we talk about, but something we’ve worked hard to embed into our business. We have always taken our responsibility with regards to health and safety very seriously, and as a forward thinking company, CR is now also part of everything we do, from liaising with customers to managing our supply chain.
“The results demonstrate that we are already outperforming our peers and we will keep on working to improve. What’s more, with the launch of our new sustainability strategy, One Plan, we’ll also be encouraging others in our industry to do their bit.”
Speedy were also awarded a Big Tick award from BITC, in recognition of their commitment to responsible business. They will receive their Anglo American Supply Chain Award at the BITC North West awards ceremony this evening, due to take place at the Imperial War Museum in Manchester.
