Harvie Russell, Apprentice Depot Manager

My Speedy journey started in October 2021 and I am based in the Plymouth Depot. I was searching for a career in business and management when the opportunity arose to apply for a position as an apprentice in Speedy. The Apprentice Depot Manager role meant I could progress my career while also being funded to gain my desired qualifications, so I jumped at the chance of kick starting my career in a company committed to development and diversity within the hire industry.

Speedy have been welcoming and supportive towards me since I joined with absolutely no knowledge about the hire industry! I have completed many helpful Learning courses and attended some fantastic classroom courses to help me gain knowledge about safety and the hire industry.

I work in a team at the depot which communicates well with each other, nothing is too much trouble for anyone to help me with or explain to me if I have any questions about a piece of equipment or a task that I'm dealing with. I have been made to feel part of the team and part of Speedy since day one. I am excited to create a future here at Speedy and develop my career with the help of my peers. It has been daunting being the first Depot Manager Apprentice but with the programme structure being detailed and well planned out, I have no doubt this will be a success for me and a program that many more people will be eager to join.

In 5 years, I would like to see myself having gained my apprenticeship qualifications and running my very own depot! Everyone that I have had the chance to meet in the wider Speedy team has been very supportive and made me feel like I belong. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Speedy for giving me this amazing start in my career, I am looking forward to my journey within the company and working to my full potential.
