At this time of uncertainty the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers is of the upmost importance. We have remained open for business and continue to work collaboratively with the industries we support. Our COVID-19 risk assessments are continually under review and we introduced several measures to keep our people safe starting in early March. Now that our customers are starting to re-mobilise, we have put further measures in place for the safety of our employees and customers.

Our People

Following Government guidelines, our people have been working from home where possible. For those not able to work from home we put several preventative controls in place following all Government and industry guidelines of social distancing, hygiene practices and cleaning processes. Proportionate measures were put in place to protect the most vulnerable, in accordance with Government advice.

We recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health and safety and we have trained Mental Health First Aiders available should any of our staff need additional support.

Social Distancing

Social distancing has been introduced with floor markings at 2 metre zones. We’ve introduced one way systems where we can and staggered break times with the aim of reducing contact. To further support social distancing customers are currently not permitted into our depots.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

Hand wash and sanitiser is available for all our staff and we encourage frequent hand washing. We’ve recently installed hand sanitiser dispensers across all of our depots and offices. Disposable gloves are available and specific advice is given on cross contamination and the avoidance of touching the face when wearing gloves. Additional PPE is available to the depot network as appropriate and face coverings have been recommended in certain circumstances.

Enhanced cleaning takes place in our depot network and includes regular cleaning of frequently touched areas and items. Cleaning regimes are logged and monitored.

Equipment returned to our depots is subject to a thorough clean on arrival before being placed for re-hire. We pay particular attention to areas regularly touched, such as handles, switches and areas likely to be touched when moving and handling. Anything which can’t be successfully cleaned in this way is placed in a quarantined area for 72 hours.

Call and Collect

Certain depots are operating a call and collect service. We offer pre-arranged appointments and allocate safe zones in our car park and yard areas, so that customers can collect and return equipment from a safe distance. At the moment, our depots are not open for customers ;toilets and vending machines are therefore for staff use only.

Drivers and colleagues

Drivers and colleagues are issued with individual hand sanitiser and PPE as appropriate. We are currently requesting customers not to touch PDA devices. We operate a one person per vehicle policy and request customers respect a 2 metre working zone for our staff. Our delivery vehicles are subject to an enhanced cleaning regime, paying particular attention to interiors and areas touched often, however, their external appearance may reflect their continued use as working vehicles in the construction industry.

When working on external sites, we follow the same guidelines of social distancing, hygiene and cleanliness and enable our staff to leave working environments which are not following the expected safety standards.

Information

Our internal intranet, The Hub, is host to a COVID-19 section which is updated on a regular basis with health, safety and wellbeing information. Colleagues have access to risk assessments, guidance and hints and tips for all COVID-19 related activity.

Our team of HSSEQ professionals actively support our depot network, the wider business and customers with advice, information and general support.
