Speedy Partner with Sustainability Partner Hydrock

Speedy has appointed Hydrock as our new sustainability partner, in our drive to achieve net zero.

In 2021, Speedy became the first hire company in the UK to publicly commit to net zero carbon emissions under science-based targets before 2050. In 2022, we decided to move the target forward to 2040.

Hydrock will now be working with us here at Speedy to support our requirements for low-carbon solutions, which marks a UK hire industry first.

They will help us to measure and report on emissions, waste streams and resource consumption. They will also help us identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and running costs.

Amelia Woodley, ESG Director at Speedy, said:

“Our aim is that every project big or small that involves the hire of our equipment, or the utilisation of our services, will be sustainable. We want to ensure that both our products and logistical operations are designed to drive down carbon, through developing new technologies and processes with our suppliers.”

What is Speedy doing to identify carbon-saving opportunities?

Hydrock will assist Speedy in identifying and finding further solutions to sustainability targets, to achieve our overall net zero aims in 2040.

We are targeting a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 42% reduction for Scope 3 by 2030,  focusing on our vehicle fleet, real estate and supply chain.

Full carbon reporting, included in Scope 3, will identify opportunities through product innovation and supply chain management to reduce whole lifecycle carbon and costs.

We’re also opening innovative service and hire centres, with our new low-carbon state-of-the-art facility opening in Leeds at the start of 2023. This is on the back of our low-carbon innovation and hire centre which opened in Milton Keynes in 2021, and showcases the latest in electric, solar and hydrogen-powered technologies.

Why have we partnered with Hydrock?

Hydrock is a leading integrated engineering design, energy, and sustainability consultancy company. They are experts in bringing sustainable solutions to infrastructure projects across the UK.

Here at Speedy, we are aiming for more transparency in what we do. As the UK’s leading hire and services provider, with the widest range of power tools, plant, and specialist equipment, we play a huge role in the UK construction sector.

We have over 200 service centres, 3,500 people, over 1,000 vehicles and more than 300,000 itemised assets for hire.

So, we know how important it is for us to have sustainability plans in place, and how much of a difference that could make to the UK’s net zero targets as a whole.
