Founded in 1977 we have grown to a £450m organisation with more than 100,000 customers, approximately 4500 employees and a national network of 450 depots.

At Speedy we believe that every employee should benefit from the best support and training we can provide, and aim to develop each to the best of their abilities. We have a network of regional training academies designed to deliver an extensive programme of learning to all Speedy employees. This learning is tailored to each person's own development needs and we offer courses from manual handling to leadership skills.
Speedy's development programme not only ensures that employees understand the skills they need to improve, but that an increase in morale and pride in their job also occurs through the process of learning in a positive environment.
We have built up a leading position within the building tool hire and equipment businesses sectors, but success does not lead to complacency and we have adopted a strategy of exploring and exploiting the potential for growth in other sectors outside of our traditional customer base. With this development comes opportunity. As we diversify into new sectors opportunities for our employees to diversify into different roles arise. This means we never allow ourselves to compromise on first class service and providing our customers with ‘expertise’. We follow up on customer issues and seek feedback to ensure customer needs are met and we aim to understand our customers' business so well we are able to proactively offer services that provide solutions to their needs and gain mutual benefit. We all directly contribute to increased quality and service - by challenging the norm.
...it is more important than ever to ask “Would you like ... with that?” at every opportunity. An important reason for doing this is about putting the Customer First. By offering our customers the chance to buy everything in one place rather than two we are improving on the service we offer and we know first class service means they continue to choose us over our competitors.

We share experiences with others about what we have learnt from our mistakes and successes. We celebrate team successes, and build our team around our vision and values. We aim to apply an understanding of the bigger picture when making every day decisions in every role.
Simons recently awarded Speedy sole supplier status for a large part of their purchasing requirements. Simons have the convenience of ordering everything using our Simons Hire Desk and can collect from our Depots. There's more! We are acting as an agent on behalf of Simons to administer purchases on behalf of their clients. Pulling this together has been challenging, we will work as One Team to make sure our service to Simons is second to none.

We aim for simple clear communication in everything and always seek a better way by challenging the way we do things around here - constantly finding ways to simplify what we do at Speedy. Safety is central to everything we do and we do not need to be told twice to deliver right first time. We drive unnecessary cost out of the business at any level.
We have made huge strides by establishing the Shared Services Centre. One of the key benefits it to help internal and external customers alike to Keep it Simple in terms of transactions with Speedy.

We always strive to be at the forefront of innovation and come up with ideas which are workable which deliver results in a different way. We are always eager to develop and improve. We take calculated risks if it means finding a better way of doing things. We drive excellence and best practice in everything we do.
We have launched a structured NVQ programme to ensure no matter what your role there will be an opportunity for you to earn a qualification. The Speedy Training Academy is really Taking a Lead on this and plans to have a fully qualified workforce by the end of 2010. Speedy have always been proud to boast that we have the best workforce in the industry, now we will be able to say every driver, fitter, hire controller, etc. are fully qualified as well as having that famous ‘Can Do’ spirit.
