Celebrating International Women's Day at Speedy Hire 

Speedy is made up of a range of diverse people, all contributing towards a vibrant, dynamic workplace. International Women’s Day (IWD) is an opportunity to celebrate the women in our business, as well as acknowledging the experience, ideas, and skills they bring to the table. 

International Women's Day 2024 is on March 8th, and this year’s theme is #InspireInclusion. IWD has been in place for over a century, and as well as looking at the achievements and hard work of women, it is also a period to look at the need we still have for gender equality and opportunity. 

IWD & Speedy Hire 

Inclusion is a really important part of the Velocity strategy here at Speedy. Gender stereotypes, discrimination and bias don’t have a place here. Our People First pillar is determined to nurture an inclusive Speedy. 

Women bring a host of personalities, interests, and skillsets to our workforce. Gender stereotypes within the construction and hire industries are present, but we can break these stereotypes and become a workplace of choice for women. 

Speedy are pledging to have a workforce made up of 30% women by 2030, as part of our Decade to Deliver strategy. We have established a Gender Affinity group and implemented various initiatives to ensure we are a workplace where women feel comfortable and can thrive. 

Get involved with International Women’s Day 

At Speedy, we are hosting a range of events to celebrate the women in our business. We are hosting a virtual coffee morning to encourage networking between women in our business and celebrate our achievements. There’s also been a world inspired buffet, which brought people from across the business who wouldn’t usually interact, together. 

Speedy also has a collective challenge to raise money for the White Ribbon Campaign, a charity set up to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes. “Walking Around the World” is a shared goal by the People Team, to walk the equivalent of the circumference of the Earth (24,901 miles, which is equivalent to 40,075 km). 

This will take place for four months starting on 1st March 2024, to raise money for White Ribbon. 

How can you get involved? From bake sales and coffee mornings to simply wearing purple, everyone can get involved in IWD, whether at work or at home. Fundraising ideas can raise money for a range of girls and women’s charities.
