My journey began a little over 18 years ago when I joined the business as a driver. The position was recommended to me by a friend who worked at the Redditch service centre. I had no idea back then that the hire industry would be my chosen path for so long. I joined our team in Birmingham city centre; it was very busy and I enjoyed being out on the road. 

12 months later I was given the opportunity to come off the road and become a Hire Controller. The service centre manager at the time Phil Clarke ensured I had the time and training to develop my product knowledge. Gradually I was given more responsibilities such as running the Transport team. For me this was a perfect role as I was once a driver myself. 

As I was developing my skills and knowledge I was eventually promoted to Assistant Manager, and a few years later I was given the chance to become the Manager of the service centre I started my journey in. I was excited at the opportunity and wanted to succeed and drive the service centre forward. 

To support me in my role, I was privileged enough to obtain a place on Speedy’s  High Potential Programme. The learning and development I received from this programme really helped me grow as a manager. It gave me new skills and tools to use in my day to day role, and it helped me work on my leadership qualities to help me be the best manager I could be. 

Our ‘Career Line of Sight’ programme has enabled me to achieve the next step in my career. I start as the Retail Area Manager for the South in August. I am looking forward to starting in my new role and developing further on my skills in management.

I am about to embark on the next phase of my journey and I am confident I will have further opportunities to progress even further. I see no reason why I can’t make director one day.
